ICT committee summons UCC over increment of broadcast license fees
The parliamentary committee on Information Communication Technology (ICT) has summoned officials from Uganda Commissions Commission to explain the increment of broadcast license fees.

Senior officials of the Uganda Communications Commissions are expected to appear before the parliamentary committee on Information Communication Technology (ICT) next week.

Committee chairperson Annet Nyakecho who is also the Tororo North MP told NTV that the officials will answer a number of questions in regard to increased broadcast license fees.

She says the broadcast sector regulator apparently increased and gazetted license fees without following the proper procedures.

According to Nyakecho, by law, UCC doesn't work in isolation since it's overseen by the ICT ministry. She added that when the committee contacted the ministry on the new broadcast license fees, the ministry was not aware.

The committee also questions why the fees are payable in dollars instead of Uganda shillings.

The committee will also question UCC officials on why the regulator has taken too long to set up a tribunal to handle complaints from the public on broadcast matters.
