Uganda Clays Limited, has called on the government to speed up the process of regulating the construction sector in order to reduce risks associated with sub-standard building materials.

Uganda Clays Limited, has called on the government to speed up the process of regulating the construction sector in order to reduce risks associated with sub-standard building materials.

During the company's annual general meeting on Friday, said the issues that are still hampering the growth of Ugana Clays Limited are high cost of production, old machinery, and the need to increase production capacity at the company’s oldest plant in Kamonkoli. The officials also hope that as the industry grows the, sector will be better regulated.

It aslo emerged during the meeting that, despite the growth in revenue, a recent slowdown in the economy, high interest rates and volatility of the shilling, high fuel prices and the conflict in the neighboring South Sudan undermined the company's growth.

Despite the challenges Uganda clays posted a Shs2.3 billion profit and paid  out an interim dividend of 1 shilling per share to shareholders.
