Court ruling empowers tax appeals tribunal
From now onwards, anybody with a taxation complaint against the Uganda Revenue Authority will have to first go to the tax appeals tribunal before going to any other court of law.

From now onwards, anybody with a taxation complaint against the Uganda Revenue Authority will have to first go to the tax appeals tribunal before going to any other court of law.

This is after a supreme court ruling in a dispute between the URA and Rabbo Enterprises that has spurned nearly 13 years. In tax disputes, the High Court will act as a Court for Appeal not the court of first instance.

Anyone going to the appeals tribunal, must henceforth pay 30% of the tax amount in dispute as opposed to the former instance when one went to the High Court and did not have to pay any prior tax for the case to be heard.
