DPP drops murder charges against ex-city police chief Baguma
Katusabe's family say they are disappointed with the DPP’s statement and will pursue a civil case

The Director of Public Prosecutions Justice Mike Chibita has withdrawn murder, robbery and kidnap charges against former Kampala Central Police Station commander Aaron Baguma.

In the withdrawal letter dated 21st December 2017, and presented by state attorney Alex Ojok before High court judge Flavia Anglin Ssenoga, the DPP does not give a reason for discontinuing proceedings but states that the law empowers him to do so.

Consequently, Justice Ssenoga has discharged Baguma. She also fixed 5th February 2018 for the trial of eight other people accused of being involved in the kidnap and murder of a businesswoman Donah Betty Katusabe in October 2015.

Among those charged is the proprietor of Pine car bond in Kampala Muhammad Ssebuufu.

It is said the woman was killed over a 9 million shillings’ debt which was balance from the purchase of a car she had made at the car bond.

Katusabe's family say they are disappointed with the DPP’s statement and will pursue a civil case.
