The Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita has brought new charges of being part of a terrorist group against 3 Kaweesi murder suspects.

The suspects that have been charged are; Ali Mugoya, Abudallah Kala and Hibwani Sinani Zikusooka.

According to presiding grade one magistrate Noah Sajjabi, he received the new charge sheet containing the terrorism charges yesterday.

In the new charges, the trio is alleged to have confessed to being part of a terrorist group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) between 2006 and 2007 while operating in various places within Uganda and the DR Congo.

Charges of murder, aggravated robbery and Terrorism can only be tried by the High court, so the Nakawa Magistrates court lacks powers to try these new offences.

Consequently, the accused were barred from taking the plea and instead sent back on remand until the 7th of  December 2017.

However before the fresh charges were brought, Noah Sajjabi the presiding Magistrate had released Ali Mugoya and Sinani Zikusooka on bail having clocked 6 months on remand without being committed to High court to face trial

Now with the new charges, it's evident that Mugoya and Sinani have started a new journey and may have to make the mandatory 6 months on remand before they can force the court to give them bail.

Meanwhile, the court also released 2 other suspects; Sauda Ayub and Swaleh Damulira on a non -cash bail of 50 million shillings having made 180 days on remand at Luzira prison.
