GSU recruit three players, eye successful season

Buoyed by three high profile signings ahead of this season, General Service Unit men's volleyball team have vowed to step up their performances on the continental front this time round.

The paramilitary outfit also remain keen on retaining the Kenya Volleyball Federation league title this term, even though focus is currently trained on securing atleast a podium finish at the men's Africa Club Championship set for Cairo starting March 25.

The local league is meanwhile set to commence in Bungoma on March 23.

"We are will commence indoor training at Kasarani on Monday and remain there for five weeks," GSU team manager Kimeli Nicholas told Nation Sport on Wednesday.

"The new players are crucial to our game plan this season. They are all young but extremely talented and I am primarily looking at them to increase competition within the squad," the team's head coach Moses Epoloto added.

GSU, who finished a lowly 16th out of 24 clubs when they last graced this competition, will alongside Kenya Prisons take care of Kenya's interests at the games.

While there, the two Kenyan clubs will face competition from among other, 12-time champions Al Ahly, Tunisia's SC Sfaxien, Egypt's El Gaish and Algeria's GSM Petroliers.
