Kagadi hospital in dire situation, Bunyoro kingdom launches fundraising drive
Kagadi hospital was constructed in 1968 to accommodate 100 patients but the number has significantly grown over the years.

Many expectant and new mothers spend the nights on the cold floor in Kagadi hospital’s maternity ward as the facility has only 20 beds to cater for at least 25 cases registered daily.

Specioza Nabukera, the principal nurse at Kagadi hospital says the numbers are overwhelming, with many of the mothers and other patients coming from as far as Democratic Republic of Congo.

Barbara Agaba is expecting her first child and since she was brought to the hospital from distant Hamuhoro village, she has has been sleeping on the floor as she awaits her day of delivery. Many other women who have had successful deliveries have also had to sleep on the floor just like Agaba.

Kagadi hospital was constructed in 1968 to accommodate 100 patients but the number has significantly grown over the years. With the breakdown of health services in most of the neighbouring districts, Kagadi hospital remains many poor patients last hope, despite it being a poor state itself.

It is against this backdrop that the Bunyoro King, Solomon Gafabusa Iguru chose to embark on a fundraising drive to raise money for buying beds in the ward.

As part of the activities to mark the 23rd coronation anniversary locally known as Empango, the Kingdom organized a marathon to help raise funds for the hospital.
