DP youth beaten by Kinoni residents over age limit campaign
The fracas lasted for four hours as the residents arrested Hakim Kizza with other DP youths with red-ribbons and took them to the nearby police station of Kinoni.

Drama ensued in Kinoni town council in Lwengo district when residents armed with clubs beat up Democratic Party youths with red ribbons who were traversing trading centre opposing the lifting of the Presidential age limit from the constitution.

Youths led by Hakin Kizza started their pro-age limit campaign in the morning in the trading centres of Kalegero, Kiwangala and when they reached Kinoni town council along Masaka-Mbarara high way, found residents armed with sticks and the fight begun as residents believed to be Pro-NRM beat-up the youths with the red ribbons.The fracas lasted for four hours as the residents arrested Hakim Kizza with other DP youths with red-ribbons and took them to the nearby police station of Kinoni.Some of the residents say they did not know the motives of these DP youths and that’s why residents mobilized themselves to rescue the situation as the youth matched into Kinoni town council. They say that these youths were threatening the security of the area and disorganising business activities.The anti-age limit youths say it was not proper to be beaten because they have freedom of expression on the national matters and they will not allow any amendment of the constitution in favour of President Museveni.Hakim Kizza said they are residents in Bukoto South constituency represented by MP Muyanja Mbabaali who is confusing the public that his constituents are in support of lifting of the Presidential age limit from the constitution. He said they will not just sit-back and they are fighting people who want President Museveni to overstay in power.The Southern Regional Police spokesman, Lameck Kigozi says they warned the DP youths not continue with their anti-age limit campaign because they were not granted permission. He said police received information about residents who beat these youths but police in an investigation and nobody will be allowed to cause chaos as they continue opposing the lifting of the age limit.
