MPs threaten to block Ministry budget over inadequate funding for spy agency
In its budget proposals for the financial year 2017-2018, presented before the committee the Internal spy organisation through the office of the president, applied for 283 billion budget for the next financial year, but to the surprise of the MPs, only 19 billion was availed, creating a funding gap of 263 billion.

The approval of the budget for the office of the president, for the financial year 2018 to 2019 hangs in balance after the MPs on the presidential affairs committee vowed not to approve the sbudgetover inadequate funding of the Internal Security Organization.

In its budget proposals for the financial year 2017-2018, presented before the committee the Internal spy organisation through the office of the president, applied for 283 billion budget for the next financial year, but to the surprise of the MPs, only 19 billion was availed, creating a funding gap of 263 billion.

However, according to the Minister in charge of the presidency Esther Mbayo, the item is one of the unfunded priorities by the ministry of finance, for the internal security organization.She blamed the Ministry of Finance for failing to consider its requests for a supplementary budget.

 

Ibrahim Kasozi, the Makindye East MP and other lawmakers said that last year they had cautioned the ministry that if resources for ISO are not provided, they would not approve its budget.The committee expects the officials to return at a later date to answer the queries the MPs raised.
