Prisons, Pipeline storm quarterfinals

  • Kenya Prisons Friday stormed the quarters of the ongoing Women's Africa Club volleyball Championship in Egypt with a match to spare, after posting a 3-1 sets (25-15, 25-5, 23-25,25-11) win over Burundi's DOUANES.
  • This was Prisons third consecutive victory at the continental competition, following earlier triumphs over Nigeria's Customs Club and Cote d'Ivorie champions Asec Mimoas, both achieved without dropping a set.

Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline Friday stormed the quarters of the ongoing Women's Africa Club volleyball Championship in Egypt with matches to spare.

Prisons posted a 3-1 sets (25-15, 25-5, 23-25,25-11) win over Burundi's DOUANES, as Pipeline saw off DGSP of Congo 3-0 sets (25-6,25-10,25-13).

This was Prisons third consecutive victory at the continental competition, following earlier triumphs over Nigeria's Customs Club and Cote d'Ivorie champions Asec Mimosa, both achieved without dropping a set.

Thus, Saturday's final group D fixture against Cameroon's INJS is a formality for the wardresses, who are eyeing a sixth continental gong.

"We only lost the third set because we introduced the younger players to get the exposure but we managed to recover in the fourth set," said Prisons coach David Lung'aho, who is chasing a record eighth continental title at club level.

Pipeline are also flying high in this Championship having beaten hosts El Shams and Uganda's Vision Volleyball Club in their opening engagements.

In selected results, Uganda's Nkumba University spanked Cameroon's Nyong 3-0(25-22, 25-18,25-14) with Ugandan attacker Habib emerging top scorer with 11 points.

Bafia who are one of the four clubs from Cameroon competing at the event, edged Botswana Defence Force 3-2(26-24,11-25,21-25,25-20,15-15).
