Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has adjourned Parliament indefinitely and ordered for the withdrawal of the court order issued by Justice Steven Kavuma restraining Parliament from investigating and questioning the Shs6B payment of oil tax money given to 42 government officials.
Shortly after the reading of the motion to debate the payment, Mwesigwa Rukutana, the Deputy Attorney General called for a point of procedure and took to the floor saying his office had been served a court order restraining Parliament from investigating, questioning or injury into the payments.
However, MPs ruled the Attorney General out of order quoting the parliament powers and privileges act on the invalidity of the court order. After a series of back and forth discussions with the Deputy Attorney General, the Speaker ruled that the Attorney General move to court and have the court order reversed.
Kadaga who called the court order "stupid" also ruled that no business shall be conducted in Parliament until the court order is withdrawn. The move by the Speaker to adjourn committees and plenary sine die was applauded by legislators.
