MPs vow to block GMO bill, say it won't help Ugandans
In December 2017 President Museveni declined to sign the bill arguing that they should clarify among other issues, its title, patent rights of indigenous farmers and sanctions for scientists who mix GMOs with indigenous crops and animals

A section of Lawmakers are calling for withdrawal of the National Biotechnology and Biosafety Bill, 2012 commonly known as the GMO bill, they argue that this bill won't help the ordinary Uganda.

The bill seeks to provide a regulatory framework that facilitates the safe development and application of biotechnology, research, development and release of genetically modified organisms.
