Muthaiga Golf Club’s Nelson Mudanyi rolled in a total of six birdies with only a single bogey for an impressive five under par, to take a two-shot lead in the second leg of the Barclays Kenya Open qualifying series at Sigona Monday.

Thanks to his knowledge of the course and play management, Mudanyi hit 15 greens on regulation with 27 putts for his super 67, which was his lowest round since last August, where he fired 65 at the same course.

“I tried to manage the course and only hit my driver once. I felt more in control of my game without the driver on my hand, and i just have to maintain that all the way to the Barclays Kenya Open," said Mudanyi.

He birdied the second, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth and bogeyed the seventh for a low 32. He birdied at the 18th after making eight straight pars from the 10th, to lead home pro John Wangai by two shots.

Wangai birdied the second, sixth, ninth and 10th and like Mudanyi, he also dropped a shot at the seventh for three under 69.

Long hitting Dismas Indiza was next on one under par 71, and a shot better than Justus Madoya, Kopan Timbe and Brian Njoroge.

Teeing off for the second round of the 72-hole event is on from Tuesday 8am.
