Kakamega High off to winning start in school games

  • Coached by Amos Wamanga, the victors scored their unconverted try via Timothy Okwembah in the 15th minute of the pool D preliminary match at Kakamega High School grounds.  

  • Musingu, playing under tactician Cyrus Rotich, wasted two penalties which could have seen them floor the seven-time national kings.

  • The two penalties were shot outside the poles by Brian Juma and Nigel Peterson in the 36th and 42nd minutes respectively in the match that was officiated by Martin Tavale.

Defending champions Kakamega High School on Thursday started their rugby 15s title defence on a bright note after beating Musingu Secondary School 5-0 in the ongoing Kakamega County Secondary Schools Term One Games.

In pool C, Mukumu Secondary School whipped Mwihila Secondary School 37-0 as Koyonzo Secondary School defeated Butere Secondary School 7-3 in another pool C encounter.

In pool A, Kivaywa Secondary School thrashed Lubinu Secondary School 38-0. In boys’ hockey, St Peter’s Mumias hit Lugari Secondary School 1-0.

In the girls’ category, Nangili High School beat Eregi Secondary School 3-0 in their pool A preliminary match. In pool B, Butere Secondary School upstaged Malava Secondary School 3-0.

Boys’ basketball defending champions Kakamega High School kicked off the title defence strongly, beating Mukumu Secondary School 48-35 in their pool B encounter.

Malava Secondary School defeated Luunza Secondary School 46-28 in their pool A preliminary encounter.

In the girls’ matches, St Mary’s Secondary School saw off Tombo Secondary School 30-25 in pool B, while in pool A, Nangili Secondary School overcame Eregi Secondary School 26-22.

Boys’ handball defending champions Mukumu Secondary School started the title campaign on a high note after beating Malava Secondary School 33-10 in their pool C opening match.

In the girls’ category, defending champions Mukumu Secondary School beat Bishop Sulumeti Secondary School 27-7 in pool B.
