Mobile data usage on the rise in Uganda - UCC
According to the UCC this information is gathered through monitoring market and industry trends covering key aspects of the communications sector and for the next couple of months the commission is predicting more vibrancy and digital growth in the country

The Uganda Communications Commission has today announced projections that indicate a growth in the communications sector and an increase in mobile and data in subscriptions and the rise in mobile financial services.

According to UCC, there has also been a rise in the usage of Broadband Internet being accessed on Mobile Phones.

 

Uganda Communications Commission's report for the months of April of and June has been found that 64% of Ugandan’s are now using mobile phones and internet subscription has also grown by 14.5% since March.

The Executive Director Godfrey Mutabazi who spoke to journalists at the UCC Offices in Bugolobi also revealed that this growth has also led to stiff competition in the retail broadband Market and lower costs of the internet for handheld devices.

 

On Mobile voice tariffs UCC revealed that there was no major change in the price of the tariffs and growth in voice traffic had grown by 9% between March and June and also increased use of financial services over the digital platform such as Mobile banking

 

UCC also revealed that technology convergence which is now on the increase is slowly making traditional forms of media such as TV and Radio broadcasting and Newspapers become obsolete giving a rise to broadcasting over the Internet...
