Parliament to debate President's concerns on GMOs
Parliament’s committee on Science and Technology will have two weeks to review the bill taking into consideration concerns raised

President Yoweri Museveni has asked the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Agricultural Research Organisation to explain whether genetically modified organisms have been released into the public.

The directive is contained in a  statement to the Speaker of Parliament after he rejected to sign the national biotechnology and biosafety bill into law.

He said the bill in its current form had several gaps and would disenfranchise communities of their rights.

The Ministry of Agriculture is expected to retable the bill this afternoon and to explain the president’s concerns.

Thereafter Parliament’s committee on Science and Technology will have  two weeks to review the bill taking into consideration concerns raised
