Police introduces phone app to track traffic fine defaulters
The Express Penalty System App receives all data relating to a particular vehicle from Uganda Revenue Authority once the vehicle registration number is keyed in.

Police is now using a special mobile phone app to track down motorists who commit traffic offences and default on paying fines in the bank under the express penalty scheme.

The Express Penalty System App receives all data relating to a particular vehicle from Uganda Revenue Authority once the vehicle registration number is keyed in.

Claire Ansasire, a police officer from the ICT Directorate attached to the traffic department explained how the app works.

According to Ansasire, all that the traffic police officer has to do is key in the registration number of any vehicle and that officer will receive details about the car from the Uganda Revenue Authority. The app can also track driving permits and be used to issue an express penalty ticket to the driver.

The app is still a pilot project in Kampala Metropolitan Area but it will be introduced in the rest of the country in the coming months
