Are EALA MPs representatives of the people or just self-seekers?
The amounts of money that have gone towards lobbying might be a sign that many of the aspirants are more interested in the handsome pay packages than in representing Uganda at the regional assembly.

2017 has seen the highest number of people express interest in becoming Uganda's representatives to the East African Legislative assembly with over 100 people expressing interest in the 9 slots available for Uganda.

The increased interest and the amounts of money that have gone towards lobbying parliamentarians, who actually get to make the final vote on who goes to EALA, has been viewed by some as a sign that many of the aspirants are more interested in the handsome pay packages and perks that come with the position of EALA MP than an actual interest in representing Uganda at the regional assembly.
