How can DP end the factionalism that has beleaguered the party?
The most recent manifestation of these fissures has been the apparent differences between DP's Vice Chairperson for Buganda, Betty Nambooze and the Party President-General Norbert Mao.

There have been divisions emerging in the Democratic Party, Uganda's oldest party, for some time now.

The most recent manifestation of these fissures has been the apparent differences between DP's Vice Chairperson for Buganda, Betty Nambooze and the Party President-General Norbert Mao. This was the culmination of a split within the party between those who support Mao and those opposed to him (ostensibly because they believe he is heading the party down the wrong path).

DP members Mathias Mpuuga (MP Masaka Municipality), Paul Katende (DP spokesperson) and Prof. Mwambutsya Ndeebesa, a political historian, attempt to analyse the causes of the factionalism and what possible solutions can be applied to end it.
