Constitution should not be amended for selfish reasons - Makerere law Don
The society interim chairperson, Professor John-Jean Barya also doubts the ability of the parliamentary legal Committee to come out with an impartial report on the matters

A group of Makerere University Dons have advised parliament to drop the proposed amendment, to remove the presidential age limit.

Through their Society for Justice and National Unity group, they say Parliament should instead concentrate on providing meaningful amendments to reforming the electoral laws as well as reforming the structure and Composition of the Electoral Commission.

Another member of the think tank Professor  Mwambutsya Ndebesa also condemns the manner consultation by the ruling NRM party calling it selective.However, the NRM Party Secretariat Rogers Mulindwa defended the party’s consultation saying they have structures where their leaders can pass on the message to other members at the grassroots level.

''We are a party with structures and we speak through our leaders. you don't expect the national chairman to go to the grassroots'' Mulindwa said.
