The tribal and political overtones of the Kanyamunyu case
The case of Matthew Kanyamunyu and his co-accused has raised heated debate that has gone beyond the merits of the case and taken on tribal and political overtones that have taken on a life of their own.

The case of Matthew Kanyamunyu and his co-accused has raised heated debate that has gone beyond the merits of the case and taken on tribal and political overtones that have taken on a life of their own.

Recently Acholi MPs Odonga Otto and Beatrice Anywar, both affiliated to FDC, have blamed Winnie Byanyima, the wife to former FDC presidential candidate Kizza Besigye, for standing surety for Matthew and Joseph Kanyamunyu, who happen to be her relatives.

Anywar and Otto say that by standing surety for the Kanyamunyus, Byanyima had somehow shown disrespect for the family of Kenneth Akena ( the man whose murder Matthew Kanyamunyu is charged with) and by extension the Acholi people who have shown Besigye support in his past presidential campaigns.

The panel discusses the issues surrounding the tribal and political connotations of the case.
