5.26 PM: One person killed in Rukungiri as police tries to stop Kizza Besigye, Patrick Amuriat rally

One person has been killed and several injured in Rukungiri as police tried to stop an FDC Presidential campaign rally.

The FDC Presidential aspirant Patrick Amuriat was campaigning in Rukungiri and was welcomed by the former FDC President Kizza Besigye.

However, after meeting delegates, police tried to stop them from holding a rally. 

In the chaos that ensued, one person was killed.

According to the Kigezi region police spokesman Elly Matte the person was killed by a blunt object.

 

 

4. 5O PM: Kenya's Raila Odinga to lead opposition demos on election day

Kenya's opposition leader Odinga says the opposition will hold demos on the 26th of October and will ensure that there is no election.

Odinga pulled out of the elections saying the electoral commision had failed to meet his demands.

He insists his withdraw meant there should be fresh nominations for presidential elections instead of a continuation.

2: 46 PM: Kenya's Raila Odinga says he doesn't support secession

Kenya's Opposition leader Raila Odinga has rejected calls by some of his supporters for his western Kenya stronghold to secede from the rest of Kenya.

Odinga told the UK's Financial Times newspaper the calls for secession were caused by marginalisation of communities in the region.
