Floodwaters have damaged several roads in the Mt. Elgon region. One of the roads affected is the Bududa-Bunamubi road, which has been severely impacted, with floodwaters cutting off the road at Tumbu village in Bukigai Town Council, paralyzing transport for motorcycles, taxis, and trucks.
The Manafwa River has burst its banks due to the ongoing heavy rains in the Elgon region.
This region has experienced similar flooding in the past, particularly in 2017, 2019, and 2022, when floods and landslides resulted in loss of life and property.
In 2022, over 10 people were killed and more than 5,000 were displaced.
