Over 35% of public servants pay bribes to secure jobs

Over 35 per cent of public servants paid bribes to secure their jobs and in some cases, the individuals recruited may not have been the best or even qualified candidates, according to the Inspector General of Government. This follows a study by the Inspectorate of Government about the financial and social impact of corruption in Uganda’s District Service Commission, which shows that job seekers were asked for bribes amounting to a collective UGX78 billion, of which UGX29 billion was actually paid.
