Procurement—which accounts for more than 60 percent of Uganda’s national budget—is set for a major overhaul.

The profession is being formalised through the introduction of practising certificates, similar to those required for lawyers and engineers.

The proposed Procurement and Professional Bill aims to enhance accountability, enforce compliance, and equip practitioners with the skills needed to meet global standards, according to Dr. Levi Kabagambe, Chairperson of the Institute of Procurement Professionals of Uganda.

Racheal Nabisubi reports.
