Government moots ban on charcoal trade
The Ugandan government is considering a ban on the sale and use of charcoal, particularly in urban areas where electricity is readily accessible. Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa announced the proposal during the launch of a clean cooking campaign, a joint initiative between the government and the Buganda Kingdom. Minister Nankabirwa emphasized that transitioning to electricity and gas for cooking would not only be more environmentally sustainable but also cost-effective for households.
