Activists push for survival swimming skills in schools to combat high drowning rates
Activists advocating for drowning prevention are calling for the integration of survival swimming skills into the school curriculum as a strategy to address the country's high drowning rates. Speaking during the launch of the drowning prevention project in Masaka City, Dr. Fredrick Oporia, head of the Trauma, Injuries, and Disability Unit at Makerere University School of Public Health, stated that nearly 3,000 people die from drowning in Uganda annually, averaging about nine deaths daily.
