Gulu- Gulu Magistrate’s Court has adjourned the treason case against MPs Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, Kassiano Wadri and others until October 1.

 The adjournment was prompted by the error in the date for their appearance in the magistrate’s court, which was set by the High Court that released the accused on bail on Monday.

“By omission, these suspects were released on bail before the High Court on Monday and they were directed to appear before the magistrate’s court for mention on September 30 which falls on a Sunday. And for that matter, we pray for an adjournment to October 1,” Mr Deus Kyomya, a State Attorney, said.

He submitted that investigations into the case are not yet concluded and prayed that the court to give the prosecution more time.

Mr Tonny Kitara, the lawyer representing the suspects, did not object.

“I pray that this court treats these mistakes as bona fide mistakes of the court,” Mr Kitara said.

After listening to submissions by both sides, presiding Grade One Magistrate Mr Yunus Ndiwalana granted the adjournment.

 “Since the investigation is still going on, this matter is adjourned until October 1,” he said.

Arua Municipality MP, Mr Wadri said as law-abiding citizens they are committed to following court orders.

On the final day of the Arua Municipality by-election campaigns, chaos broke out in the town and subsequent to that, Bobi Wine, the Kyaddondo East MP and other Opposition MPs who included the eventual winner Mr Wadri, Mr Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality), Mr Paul Mwiru (Jinja East), Mr Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality) and Mr Mike Mabikke (former Makindye East MP) were violently arrested by police and UPDF soldiers on accusations that they stoned the President’s car and damaged its rear windscreen.

They were first detained by the army in Gulu barracks and severely beaten. They were later charged with treason but were released on bail on Monday.

Bobi Wine and Zaake who were in dire state due to torture were hospitalised with severe injuries. Mr Zaake’s condition deteriorated but he was early on Thursday being blocked from travelling to India for specialised treatment.
