The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the highly anticipated TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 to August 2025.
Originally scheduled for February 1-28, the tournament will now take place in August 2025. This decision comes as a result of consultations with CAF's technical and infrastructure experts, who have indicated that additional time is needed to ensure the infrastructure and facilities meet the high standards required for a successful tournament.
Despite significant progress in the host nations—Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda—in terms of constructing and upgrading stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other vital infrastructure, CAF’s experts have emphasized that more time is necessary to complete these developments and guarantee they are at the required level for hosting the prestigious event.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his gratitude to the heads of state of the host countries for their commitment and leadership in the preparations. He thanked Kenyan President William Ruto, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for their continued support and praised the ongoing work.
“I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda,” said Dr. Motsepe. “I am confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other facilities will meet CAF’s standards, ensuring a successful tournament in August 2025.”
CAF will also be conducting the official draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 20:00 Nairobi time. The precise start date of the tournament in August 2025 will be announced by CAF at a later date.
