Diabetes diagnosis drives Hamidah Nabakka to advocate for children’s health
Continuous glucose monitoring and being extremely cautious about her sugar levels are part of Hamidah Nabakka’s daily life. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of six while in baby class, Nabakka’s routine revolves around checking her blood sugar levels day and night and administering insulin as guided by healthcare providers. This is intended to manage her sugar levels and prevent abrupt diabetic attacks. Hamidah is the only child in her family diagnosed with diabetes, with both her parents being diabetes-free. Over the years, Nabakka and other warrior coordinators have been empowered and are now advocates for children living with Type 1 diabetes.
