Monday September 16 2024
A diverse group of dignitaries, including Evelyn Anite, Minister of State for Finance in Charge of Investment and Privatization, Dr. Kenneth Omona, Minister for Northern Uganda, and local government leaders from the 15 administrative units in West Nile, have convened at Hotel Le-Confidentiel in Arua for the Local Government Regional Budget Consultative Workshop for FY 2025/2026.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Kenneth Omona emphasized the government's current agenda to ensure that every household engages in income-generating activities to create wealth and contribute to the economy. He highlighted the need for targeted budgeting for access roads to facilitate mobility and cross-border trade, given that major West Nile districts are situated at the borders of Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan.
Evelyn Anite, the State Minister for Finance and Investment, addressed the challenge of attracting investors and developing industrial parks in West Nile due to a lack of stable industrial power. She noted that with the region now connected to the national grid, the development of industrial parks is expected to accelerate.
On August 3rd, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commissioned the 132KV Kola-Gulu-Nebbi transmission line, officially connecting West Nile to the national grid and paving the way for improved infrastructure and industrial growth in the region.
