A floating island measuring over 6 acres has blocked the Busiro Landing site in Namayingo district, paralysing business and the movement of boats.

The island floated from the Sigulu islands and blocked one of the biggest landing sites in Namayingo district.

Stephen Musisi, one of the residents at the landing site, says that the blockage occurred two days ago.

The blockage has paralysed travel by boat from the mainland to Sigulu island and other neighbouring areas in Namayingo district.

Mustafa Nuhu, one of the residents says that the blockage has led to a decline in the number of boats anchoring at the landing site which was affecting their businesses.

Isiko Fabhaino, a trader at the landing site, says that they had lost business and were afraid of wild animals that might have come with the floating island.

Busiro has Ministry of Health ambulance boats that are used to evacuate the sick from the islands which have also been blocked.

Residents are now appealing to the government to come to their rescue and remove the island.
