Government acquires 10 speed rescue boats from China
In a bid to curb water accidents, the Ugandan government has acquired 10 speed rescue boats worth $1.2 million from China. The boats that will be deployed in 10 districts will primarily target fishing communities most affected by drowning incidents. This follows a report by Marine Police indicating that 138 people drowned in 2023, accounting for over 65% of all maritime incidents.
