Government launches coffee value chain actors registration exercise
The Agriculture Ministry, together with the Uganda Coffee Development Authority, has launched a national registration of coffee value chain actors to be completed by December 30, 2024. This registration complies with the European Union Deforestation Regulation, approved by the EU parliament on December 5, 2022. This initiative is part of broader efforts to combat climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze says this registration will enable traceability of coffee to ensure environmentally friendly and sustainable production, calling on leaders and district local government leaders to support the exercise. Uganda is the 7th largest coffee producer globally and the 2nd largest in Africa.
