High Court halts ULS meeting ahead of Judicial Service Commission elections
The High Court in Kampala has halted an extraordinary general meeting of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), where lawyers were set to vote for their representatives to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). Justice Musa Ssekaana, head of the Civil Division, issued prohibition orders, which will remain in place until all cases challenging the election process are resolved. The case stems from ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde’s decision to dismiss council members Phillip Munabi and Geoffrey Turyamusiima from their positions. The court also prohibited the ULS and its Electoral Commission chairperson, Moses Mwase, from holding elections or implementing a council decision made on 24th November 2024. Despite the ruling, a ULS statement confirms plans to proceed with the extraordinary general meeting next Tuesday.
