Lt Gen. Andrew Guti re-appointed as Military Court chairman

President Yoweri Museveni who is also the commander in chief of the UPDF has reappointed Lt Gen Andrew Gutti as the chairman of the General Court Martial. 

Guti's re-appointment was confirmed by the UPDF spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire on twitter. 

“Congratulations to Lt Gen Andrew Gutii and team for being reappointed by the High Command to the UPDF General Court Martial,” Brig Richard Karemire tweeted on Tuesday.


Gen. Guti's two-year term had expired, and sources indicated that this was the reason why former Police chief General Kale Kayihurahad not yet been brought to court.

Kayihura is being held at Makindye military barracks, he has not been brought to court, and no charges have been preferred against him yet.

Gen. Guti will have his plate full in this new term, with the ongoing trial of Boda Boda 2010 Patron Abdallah Kitatta, Police officers that were arrested and are accused of illegally deporting Rwandan refugees, and the anticipated trial of former Police Chief General Kale Kayihura.

Lt.Gen Gutti was first appointed to head the General Court Martial in May 17th 2016 replacing the late Maj Gen Levi Karuhanga.
He was reappointed on July 3rd, 2017.
Between May 2012 and December 2013, Lt. Gen Gutti was the commander of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) based in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Before his deployment to Somalia, he was the commandant of the Uganda Senior Command and Staff College at Kimaka in Jinja.
