In a bid to end period poverty and stigma in vulnerable communities, Manchester United Fans Mbarara, together with Period Talk Uganda and Videa Uganda, have donated various menstrual products, including durable reusable sanitary pads, to support the girls in the Kisenyi and Kijungu ghettos who cannot afford pads monthly.
This charity work coincides with the world's commemoration of World AIDS Day, emphasizing awareness that the killer disease still exists. They also distributed condoms to the ghetto youth, urging them to always protect themselves against HIV.
Among the other donations were condoms and food items such as sugar, maize flour, and cooking oil, aimed at supporting less privileged ghetto families who cannot afford daily meals.
Mr. Bulega, also known as MC Belga, Chairperson of Manchester United Fans Mbarara, stated that the initiative was executed on World AIDS Day to raise awareness among ghetto youth about the prevalence of HIV/AIDS, which is particularly rampant in Mbarara City’s Kisenyi and Kijungu slums.
"We wanted to make a positive contribution to changing people's lives and creating an impact in our community. That’s why we chose this place, as it is one of the areas most affected by HIV/AIDS. We are looking forward to changing someone’s life," he said.
