Masaka city Electoral Commission Returning officer, Sam Agaba has declared Florence Namayanja the winner of Masaka city mayoral seat after she defeated seven candidates including business tycoon, Emmanuel Lwasa.
Florence Namayanja (NUP), polled 28,824 votes against Emmanuel Lwasa (independent) who got 7,408 votes while Willis Mbabazi (NRM) got 2,421 and Charles Kabanda (DP) got 841 votes. Others were Muhammed Sembajja who got 190 votes, Robert Kaweesi 105 votes, Puis Kabiswa 50 votes and Francis Sengabi got 20 votes.
In an interview after she was declared winner, Florence Namayanja said that her win was not easy after some of the Electoral Commission officials did not handle the electoral process properly and also that one of her competitors, Emmanuel Lwasa tried to rig the elections.
Namayanja said that she will ensure that there is perfect service delivery with experienced and highly competent technical officials in the development of the new Masaka city.
Meanwhile, Lwasa who polled only 7,408 votes said that voters in Masaka city do not know what they want.
“I am a development oriented person and better than Namyanja, “ Lwasa told journalists.
He added that Namyanja did nothing for the people of Bukoto East constituency who she is currently serving as Member Of Parliament.
Lwasa said he is resorting to doing his business activities and that he will not involve himself in politics again because this time the people just voted for NUP candidates who, he believes, will not transform Masaka city.
Also Willis Mbabazi an NRM candidate said he was not convinced with the win of Namayanja and that he plans to take her to court and challenge her victory.
