National Drug Authority donates UGX5 Million for Lango Coronation

Saturday October 19 2024

The National Drug Authority has donated 5 million shillings to the Lango cultural institution for their upcoming coronation on November 2nd of this year, during which Lango will install their new paramount chief, Eng Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, onto the throne.

Lango, along with other northern Ugandan communities, has suffered as a result of Uganda's conflicts, including the LRA war, leading to many people being displaced and seeking re-settlement. The chiefdom believes that culture can be a way to promote peace, including the reintegration of recently returned LRA combatants.

The area faces challenges such as charcoal burning, which is destroying ecosystems, as well as issues like poor healthcare and high rates of teenage pregnancies. The kingdom is advocating for more support to facilitate this forthcoming coronation function.
