NATURAL RESOURCE WEALTH: Citizens want transparency, accountability
A study conducted by a group of Non-Governmental Organizations dubbed the Citizens Manifesto on Petroleum and Mining indicates that the citizens of Uganda want the next President to ensure that there is transparency, accountability and no political interference in the management of the oil, gas and minerals. The manifesto was developed through a consultative process involving different stakeholders, led by Action Aid International Uganda, Oxfam Uganda, the Centre for Social and Environmental Rights and the Africa Center for Energy and Mineral Policy. The Executive Director of the Africa Center for Energy and Mineral Policy, Don Binyina Bwesigye, told NTV that the people expect the oil revenue to be used to develop infrastructure, improve education and social amenities.
