Security agents raid MTN offices, access caller Data

MTN Uganda is seeking intervention from government after Security officials raided their data center in Mutundwe.
The telecom company has filed a complaint with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) alleging that security officials from the Internal Security Organization (ISO) trespassed onto their data center and accessed their servers.
According to the letter addressed to the Executive Director of UCC, Godfrey Mutabazi, the incident takes place days after the manager of the Data Center who is an employee Huawei Uganda was kidnapped by men who identified themselves as ISO agents. The manager identified as Moses Keefah Musasizi is said to be responsible for the Huawei Uganda’s physical access to the MTN IT data Center.
The letter goes on to mention that Musasizi was forced to provide the ISO agents with access to the data center in Mutundwe and was also directed to disconnect four servers at the location.
According to MTN Uganda, the servers that were disconnected have affected the processing of Call Data details, Processing of Service information and the processing of Business financial reports.
The telecom company also pointed out that it did not receive any search warrant , court order or even a request for information to permit the actions of the ISO agents.
MTN claims that the breach was captured on their CCTV cameras.
