A combined security operation on Friday rounded up 62 people during a night operation in Lira City.

The operation according to the Resident City Commissioner for Lira City, Mr Lawrence Egole was aimed at getting rid of rising cases of crimes in the city. Among those arrested include five females and 57 males.

The suspects were arrested from different parts of Lira City including night clubs and on streets.

Adams Kakaire Mulondo, the District Police commander for Lira said some of the suspects were arrested selling opium, aviation fuel, and tobacco while others were arrested with knives, antelope horn, and arrow bow.

He said upon screening on Saturday, 45 of the suspects were found to be key suspects of crimes including rape, murder, and robbery within the city.
