Uganda's national carrier, Uganda Airlines, announced a significant reduction in government funding, down to 34%, after generating 66% of its operational funds internally.

The increase in internally generated revenue is attributed to new routes that have expanded passenger business within the region.

According to the airline regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority, the growth in passenger traffic indicates capacity for additional airlines in Ugandan airspace.

On Thursday, the Civil Aviation Authority held a public hearing to renew licenses for five air operators, including the national carrier, and to certify two new airlines for operation within Ugandan airspace.
