World Bank funds UGX 3.5 Billion water project in Rakai district
Rakai District will benefit from a Shs 3.5 billion water project funded by the World Bank, benefiting about 4,000 people. Despite bordering major freshwater bodies like Lake Victoria and Lake Kijja-nibarora, Rakai is one of the districts in Uganda with an acute water problem. During the dry season, a jerrycan of water costs between 1,500 and 2,000 shillings in some areas.
