Muslim women lawyers petition court to expand grounds for abortion

A group of Muslim women lawyers and the Islamic Women’s Initiative for Justice, Law, and Peace have petitioned the Constitutional Court seeking an order to amend the Penal Code Act to broaden the grounds under which abortion is permitted. Currently, the Penal Code Act allows abortion only if a qualified medical professional establishes that the pregnancy endangers the expectant mother.
