Architects call for approved housing designs

Uganda’s housing situation is marked by a shortage of adequate homes in both rural and urban areas. The Africa Housing Finance Report estimates the national housing deficit at 2.4 million units, with about 900,000 of these classified as substandard and in need of replacement or upgrading. In response, the Society of Architects is exploring ways to present ready housing plans to the authorities, with a proposed user fee to guide implementation.
