The National Social Security Fund is intensifying efforts to tap into Uganda’s informal sector, targeting over one million boda boda riders in a new savings initiative. Through its voluntary savings scheme, SmartLife Flexi, the NSSF aims to raise approximately 365 billion Ugandan shillings (£80 million) annually from riders, as well as taxi and bus operators. Launched 11 months ago, the scheme has already enrolled 44,698 members, amassing 36.4 billion shillings (£8 million). NSSF Managing Director Patrick Ayota announced that the agriculture sector is the next focus for expanding savings mobilisation. Ronah Nahabwe reports.
