A widow has the first right to apply for letters of administration if her husband left no will, without needing permission from the clan, as stipulated in the Succession Act. By law, 20% of the property left behind is entitled to the surviving spouse, usually, but not limited to, a woman. Even if a surviving spouse remarries before property resolutions are finalized, they are still entitled to 20% of the deceased’s estate. These and more featured in this episode of The Link, brought to you with Counsel Patricia of Kampala Associated Advocates.
