Ordinary Ugandans who purchase smartphones from M-KOPA can now receive hospital cash benefits for each night they spend in a hospital. Through a partnership with Turaco Micro-Insurance, pay-as-you-go phone customers will have access to health insurance for up to 30 days a year, with coverage of up to Shs 750,000 per overnight stay. M-KOPA Manager Brenda Nambalirwa said many low-income Ugandans have been left out of traditional insurance schemes due to high costs. RONAH NAHABWE reports
