Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has urged officials at the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to make IDs more accessible, especially in rural communities. He noted that some Ugandans have to travel long distances to access these services. He made these remarks today at the NIRA offices in Kololo, where he went to pick up his identity card. So far, NIRA has distributed about 4 million new cards and aims to distribute 1 million cards per week in the coming weeks. They are urging Ugandans to collect their new IDs, describing them as a game-changer and a gateway to government services.
